Fresh Microgreens Local Grown South Florida

Big-box agriculture often relies on long supply chains, heavy pesticide programs, and early harvests—meaning food can be cut weeks before you see it, stored, and shipped from sources you don’t always know. That model contributes to 1/3 of gas emissions globally - dramatically affecting our climate, flattens flavor and nutrition, and uses/wastes 70% of the worlds precious fresh water.

As the global population continues to grow, projected to hit 9.7 billion people by 2050, the commercial food industry can not keep up in suppling enough fresh food.

Roots & Shoots is different. We are strong supporters of sustainable, regenerative agriculture and creating a healthy eco-system for the world around us. We grow year-round in a controlled, indoor environment and harvest to order—so greens go from rack to plate in hours, not weeks. Using vertical farming methods and indoor farms - microgreens use 95% less water per pound of produce. Our microgreens are pesticide-free, traceable, grown naturally, and local, keeping food miles low and quality high.

Why it matters:

Micro-scale farming like ours reduces deforestation and farmland pressure, leaving more land available for carbon-storing ecosystems, helping restore balance to our green Earth.

  • Local & Transparent: Short, assessable, chef-driven supply chains with clear sourcing.

  • Water-Smart: Precise irrigation and moisture-retaining media mean dramatically less water use and no field runoff—better for rivers, reefs, and aquifers.

  • Lower Gas Emissions: Nearby production cuts transport of greens reducing carbon foot prints.  Microgreens are a climate-smart crop: fast to grow, nutrient dense, and space efficient.

  • Always in Season: Consistent flavor, nutrition, and color—no matter the weather.

Demand for nutrient-dense, fresh, and sustainable crops is outpacing traditional produce growth.

Microgreens and indoor eco-conscious growing methods are paving the way to the future of our agriculture system for generations to come. They represent a shift toward hyper-local, sustainable farming models that is accessible by everyone.

Why Choose Roots & Shoots Microgreens

At Roots & Shoots, we grow microgreens with freshness and flavor at the center of everything we do. Each tray is grown to order and harvested the same day it’s delivered, so you enjoy greens at their absolute peak. That means bold flavor, vibrant color, and maximum nutrition in every handful. Because we grow in small, carefully managed batches, there’s no waste and no sitting on store shelves — just living freshness brought straight from our farm to your kitchen.

Store-bought greens, on the other hand, are often harvested days before they reach you. By the time they land on the shelf, they’ve already lost much of their crispness, nutrients, and flavor. They’re usually limited to basic blends meant for retail, not crafted for creativity. Their short shelf life means they often wilt before you can truly enjoy them.

Whether you’re a chef creating standout dishes or a home cook adding something fresh to your meals, the difference is clear. Roots & Shoots microgreens are fresher, more flavorful, and grown with care — helping every plate feel vibrant and alive.

Sustainable Indoor Agriculture

Using vertical farming methods and advanced horticulture techniques and technology we are able to create controlled ideal growing conditions indoors year-round. This method enables us to produce consistent, nutrient packed, high quality crops year-round while using resources efficiently and reducing the exposure to pests and pathogens without using pesticides or herbicides. Sustainable farming allows less water usage, less food transportation, and less gas emission from the food industry.

Hydroponic farms vs Soil based farms

At the heart of  our growing philosophy is a deep respect for nature. This is why we grow our microgreens in high quality, rich, living soil. This not only supports sustainable farming, it also supports regenerative agriculture. We use ProMix MP organic with mychorzine (mushroom)  with a balanced organic fertilizer which acts as more than just a growing medium, soil is a thriving ecosystem that naturally nourishes our plants with essential minerals and beneficial microbes. mychorzine provides strong root structures and healthy growth. We find that the results of growing in soil creates much more flavorful, vibrant, stronger and nutrient dense microgreens while supporting regenerative agriculture. We take all of our used soil to the local community garden and compost it appropriately. Make our world a whole lot greener!

Starting from seed

Quality starts from the seed. We purchase our seeds from reputable certified sources to ensure our seeds used are high quality, non - GMO, and have high germination rates producing a high quality product every time.  We purchase organic seeds for most varieties, with the acceptation of certain varieties not being available in organic.

Eco-friendly packaging

Your produce deserves packaging as natural as what's inside. We use eco-friendly packaging made from recycled materials PRET, Keeping your produce fresh, crisp, and colorful from harvest to your table. We choose PRET containers vs compostable containers because compostable containers although eco friendly - are not beneficial to the environment UNLESS they go through a long proper composting method which includes proper containing, proper temperatures, and turning frequently, which many people do not have access to. We find it is more beneficial for the environment to provide recyclable containers giving most people access to proper disposal.
